The 2024-25 Early College Academy Parent/Student interest meeting will be Thursday, January 11 from 6:00-6:30 in the Green Hill High School auditorium.  If your child is interested in joining the cohort or you just have questions about the program that you would like to ask administrators, counselors, or representatives from Cumberland University, please join us!

What is Early College Academy?

Green Hill High School and Cumberland University are partnering to create rigorous academic path where GH students earn an Associate of Arts, Associate of Business, or Associate of Education upon graduation from high school. Students will receive instruction from university professors on the GH campus beginning junior year and end classes early enough in the school day to participate in Arts, Athletics and Clubs.

Check out the Early College Academy Handbook and this Early College Academy presentation to get more information about requirements and coursework.

How do I know if I qualify?

The following are qualification requirements to be considered for Early College Academy:

  • Minimum 3.0 unweighted GPA
  • 21 ACT composite with sub-scores of 22 in Mathematics & 20 in English. (Must have this score by 11th grade year in order to qualify for Cumberland University, so ACT is taken 10th grade year)
  • Complete Early College Academy application for acceptance & submit all required documentation and registration for Cumberland University
  • 10 hours of community service & 20 hours of documented GH extracurricular activities per year (beginning freshman year)
  • Fewer than 10 unexcused absences per year.
  • No in-school or out-of-school suspensions on discipline record

When do I apply?

Applications are now open for the 2024-25 school year and are due by midnight on Friday, March 8, 2025.

  • It is preferable that students apply for Early College Academy before freshman year at GHHS.  This allows time for GHHS counselors to ensure prerequisite requirements are met before they begin the college coursework junior year.
  • We are also accepting applications from rising sophomores & juniors who meet the ECA course requirements outlined in the handbook.
  • If students admitted to the ECA during freshman year do not meet the Cumberland University admissions requirements by the summer before junior year, they will be dismissed from the academy, but may still be eligible for other dual enrollment opportunities.
